Teaching Schedule:

The Significance of the Five Buddhist Precepts
Wednesday June 9 at 7pm - Khacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre, 5 Stevens Street, Clifton Beach
Cost $15, $10 Conc

No matter how many meetings are held in the name of world peace, there will be no happiness until people abstain from harming others. Ethical conduct is not a ritualistic obedience to some exterior imposed code of behaviour. It is rather a healthy pattern of
harmlessness, which you have consciously and voluntarily chosen because you recognise it is the key to extract your positive potential and the foundation of all happiness.

The life of the Buddha
Thursday June 10 at 7pm - Khacho Yulo Ling, Buddhist Centre, 5 Stevens Street, Clifton Beach
Cost $15, $10 Conc

The life of the Buddha is an immense landmark. He stepped out of the royal household and went on a journey that few have the courage to undertake. Relentlessly, with unflagging courage and devotion, he followed the path of meditation and vipassana to
understand the true reality of the world. The result? A prince completely awoke from illusions and became a Buddha. This talk will be followed by: Sixteen Arhat Puja (Ceremony)
The Tradition of honouring the Arhats is as old as Buddhism itself. Before Buddha passed away, he selected 16 Arhats to remain in the world and to protect the teachings. They were the earliest protectors of the teachings and are the earliest lineage masters of all Buddhist Traditions. This is a ritual performed by all four traditions of Tibetan Buddhism on full moon days and holy days to commemorate the enlightened activities of the Buddha.

Qualities of the Triple Gem and Refuge Ceremony
Friday June 11 at 8pm - Cairns Yoga Academy on Cnr
Greenslopes and Little Street, Cairns
Cost $15 $10 Conc

"A spiritual aspirant requires a model, something he or she can look up to as an ideal and thus find guidance and inspiration.  In Buddhism this is the Triple Gem, or the Three Jewels of Refuge: The Buddha, the Dharma and Sangha." (The Dalai Lama, The Path to Enlightenment p. 97) These three refuges/gems are the most precious things for practising Buddhist and those sympathetic to Buddhism. The first gem, Buddha is like the physician who cures all ills, the second gem, Dharma is like the prescription or medicine and the third gem, Sangha are like the caring nurses. Taking refuge in the triple gem is to take refuge in something that is safe and wholesome and will evenutally guide you out of the samsaric wheel of birth and death. Taking refuge formally is to commit
to the Buddhist Path and follow the five precepts.
