The Tsharpa sub-sect of the Sakya tradition began with Tsarchen Losal Gyatso (1502-1556) who established the Dar Drangmochen monastery in Tsang province in Tibet.
The Tsharpa lineage is renowned for its teachings on the greater and lesser Mahakala, a protector and the transmissions of Thirteen Golden Teachings.
The head of Tsarpa sub-sect was His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, who passed away in 22 January, 2007.
