SUMMARY:Chenrezig Practice - Wednesday mornings at 9.30am
DESCRIPTION:We do the practice of Chenrezig – Avolokiteshvara\, every Wednesday morning at 9.30am and dedicate it to those who are sick\, suffering and recently deceased. \nWe have a healing list with names of people in the community who are in need of prayers and we also have a list for those who have died. We offer prayers and mantras on their behalf and many have found this very helpful in both the healing and grieving process. It is a simple\, beautiful\, yet quite profound practice \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is preferable if people have had the transmission of the Mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”. \nFor those who are new and don’t have the transmission to this practice\, we recommend that you sit in and listen for the first time\, as a meditation practice. \nThe practice takes around 45 minutes and is chanted mainly in English except for some Sanskrit verses.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Chenrezig – Avolokiteshvara

SUMMARY:Green Tara Practice Sundays 7.30am
DESCRIPTION:Green Tara Ritual is done in most Tibetan Monasteries daily to dispel obstacles and to help all Dharma activities. \nIt is a lively\, active practice involving lots of chanting and musical instruments\, including the drum\, bells\, cymbals and conch. Green Tara is the swift-action Goddess who comes quickly when called\, to help relieve the suffering of all sentient beings. \nVenerable Rinchen leads the practice every Sunday when she is in residence.  Everyone is welcome to attend but check the calendar to make sure it is on that weekend. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt takes around and hour and half and for those who are not familiar with this kind of practice it might be best to sit and listen for the first time as it can be a little difficult to follow. \nThe initiation for Green Tara was given by His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche when he blessed our centre in 2006 and again by His Holiness Sakya Trizin in 2009 when he gave the 21 Tara Empowerment as part of his visit to Cairns. There are many legends and stories of Green Tara.

SUMMARY:Alexis Santos - "Relax and be aware" a non residential retreat on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th November.
DESCRIPTION:Relax and Be Aware – A Two-Day Non-Residential Meditation Retreat \nSaturday 9am to 4.30pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm \nThis two-day retreat offers an opportunity to step back from the busyness of daily life\, reconnect with ourselves\, and rediscover the simplicity of being aware. \nDrawing on the teachings of Sayadaw U Tejaniya\, we will explore a relaxed and natural approach to meditation—one that emphasizes awareness without striving\, forcing\, or trying to create a particular experience. \nRather than seeing meditation as something separate from everyday life\, we will learn how to bring awareness into our ordinary activities\, relationships\, and responsibilities. Through gentle\, continuous awareness\, we can begin to meet life’s challenges with greater ease\, clarity\, and wisdom. \nTogether\, we will create space to slow down\, check in with ourselves\, and practice in the supportive presence of community. These two days offer a chance to reset\, feel nourished\, and reconnect with the qualities of curiosity\, kindness\, and presence. \nThe retreat will include sitting and walking meditation\, Dhamma reflections\, and opportunities for questions and discussion. \nAll levels of experience are welcome. \nCost for the weekend including vegetarian lunch\, refreshments and Dana to the Teacher are:  Member/concession $120\, non member $140 bookings must be made by 26th November on Trybooking Link:  https://www.trybooking.com/DQYIL \nAbout Alexis:  Alexis has been in the field of mindfulness and meditation since 2001. After graduating from Harvard University in 1995\, he spent several years in medical school before leaving his chosen career as a doctor to seek out a different path. It was while traveling in India that he was introduced to insight meditation. \nSince that time\, Alexis has practiced in many meditative styles and traditions\, including with Sayadaw U Tejaniya\, the Thai Forest tradition with Ajahn Sumedho\, the Tibetan tradition with Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and within the lay Western insight community where he continues to learn from the growing diversity of voices.
